This version of Ubuntu (Edgy Eft) has reached end of life and is not
supported anymore. So we are closing this report. If this is still an
issue, can you try with latest Ubuntu release ? Thanks in advance.

Might be a similar problem for me. No network after a clean install of
edgy on my Thinkpad T40. There was no problem with all other previous
releases of ubuntu. I fixed the problem doing that :
1- Comment every lines in /etc/network/interfaces (except thoses related to the
loopback interface)
2-
Same here. Inspiron 600m, both integrated intel wireless and wired
ethernet doesn't work. I also miss the enable disable buttons, are those
gone in edgy?

hmm, i feel like I'm having a conversation with myself here, but
nevermind. Either it was a freakish hardware problem, or the update I
did with the realtek fixed it. Either way, works now.

okay, seems to be card specific. With an old realtek it works. Maybe
this was just a freaky occurrence of failed hardware at the time of
software-upgrade. I'll report back when I know for sure about the intel
card.

I have the same problem, and the workaround didn't help.
I updated to edgy from dapper yesterday, now I don't get an address from dhcp
anymore. Actually, the interface does not seem to work at all, static IP also
cannot ping the router. This is a eepro100 Card on a AMD760MP board.
The problem is
The ethernet card is a 3com gigabit integrated in an Asus KT600 MoBo.

I removed "interfaces-mtu", but when I restart the network, the system
says:

send_packet: meesage too long
No DHCPOFFERS received.
No working leases in persistent database. Sleeping.
This message was equal before remove "interfaces-mtu".

The bug #63319 isn't the mine. The gateway doesn´t answer me when I
ping to it.

Try this workaround: edit the file /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and in the
block of "request" remove "interface-mtu", then restart.
