Strange, the .recently-used.xbel is valid XML and all the characters are
encoded.

Apologies, I followed the link from the Ubuntu Forums thread that
pointed to this bug.
My system uses British English (en_gb) -- is this what you mean by the
locale?

I just wanted to add that I found out (eventually!) that deleting the
file .recently-used.xbel fixes this. No idea why though...

I've found a way to recreate this bug relatively consistantly.
Create a new user and log into Gnome with it. In Nautilus, open the
~/Examples folder and copy all the contents to the CD/DVD creator. Click
"write CD", then select "file image". Save th

Thanks for your bug. Marking as rejected for now according to your
comment, feel free to reopen if you get the issue again. Could you
install gnome-panel-dbg to get a debug backtrace if you get the issue
again? The issue is not likely to be due to beagle

With gnome-panel 2.16.1-0ubuntu3 my system does not crash anymore.
I uninstalled beagle because Bug #64326. If this is not related, can
someone close this gnome-panel bug please?
