Moving to kernel 3 solved it for me, try installing (via Synaptic)
linux-headers-generic-lts-backport-oneiric (and *image*) which will give
you a 3.0.0.26.14 at the moment.

Workaround: plug in headphones in the front panel and the internal speaker will
mute. I believe that's not how it should work and there's probably a regression
in one of the drivers.
