For what it's worth, it works for me in Hardy and Intrepid. It would be
nice if you could test with a later version of Ubuntu too to see if you
can still reproduce it too.

more information: i created a new user on my system to be sure that
there are no special settings for neither kde nor openoffice. After
login i didn't change any setting, but the bug was still there...
Then i installed a fresh instance of Kubuntu7.10 in a VirtualBox. (Again
i used a german system:

Meanwhile i am switched to ubuntu 7.10, but i am still able to reproduce
the same behaviour.
This is how it looks in Ooo-Writer after doing the above steps:

Using Firefox on the same system works perfect.

Marking this as fix released as it is working fine for me right now in
both KDE 3 and KDE 4 on Hardy and Gutsy. I do remember a similar issue I
had when copying and pasting the umlaut in the past, but it is working
right now. If you feel this is still an issue, I urge you to reopen this
