Okay, attached is my .xsession-errors file. I can confirm that the
shutdown/restart/logout problem occurs regardless of whether I bring up
the menu with the applet or my computer's power button - I click Shut
Down or Restart from the window that pops up (Example:Are you sure
you want to close all
Also, this problem has occurred despite my reinstalling Lucid several
times, and the problem persists in Maverick as well.

Thank you for your bug report. Could you get the .xsession-errors log in
your user directory and add it there? When you get the issue can you
close the session or restart by pressing the power button and using the
dialog displayed there?

Oh, and I can't use Log Out or Restart either. Both present me with
the confirmation dialogues just as the Shut Down option does, but
whenever I confirm that I want to log out, restart, or shut down, the
dialogue goes away but the system does nothing.
Once again, this is all stuff that happens
