Public bug reported: I use windows loader to launch grub4dos and then load linux. To retain this method, I install ubuntu 9.04 along with grub first and then install ubuntu 10.04 over that without installing a boot loader. The boot loader is preserved from the previous installation. I then have to manually add an entry for the new kernel into the menu.lst in order to boot 10.04. Having done that, I run the update manager and elect to install all updates. When the down load reaches about 75% of the new kernel it freezes (no progress on the downloading of the kernel image). I cancel the update, change my software sources from "Server for Jamaica" to ftp.usf.edu/pub/ubuntu which I believe is at the University of South Florida, closest to Jamaica, more up to date and reliable. I then re-start the update manager which resumes untill it reaches the point at which this bug happens.
