Just to let you know, I've had my eyes on this one for a while and a few
weeks ago I tried to fix it up. You can try the fixes by installing
gstreamer and/or pulseaudio packages from
https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/fighting-rewinds .

so I tried vlc and everything works perfectly fine. would that make it a
gstreamer issue?

PA gets killed by the kernel because it eats CPU for too long time, as
it gets caught in an infinite loop of rewinds. I saw this in another bug
as well, I just don't remember which one it was.

What media players have you tried? If only totem/rhythmbox, could you
possibly try with vlc or mplayer using their respective pulseaudio
output plugins?
