Seems to be related to https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xmms/+bug/63144 although in #63114 no-one reported a hardware lock. The workaround: export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 xmms also seems to fix the problem for me. -- Starting XMMS with double size on locks (crashes) system hard
