Public bug reported: I have a laptop screen with a resolution of 1366x768 and an external monitor connected via VGA, the external monitor has a resolution of 1280x1024. Graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 using the default open source driver.
The mouse can go off of the top of the laptop screen into a "dead area" and applications sometimes open half off the screen. Running the mouse pointer along the top edge of the external monitor and onto the laptop screen causes the mouse to disappear into the "dead area". Nautilus also places desktop items starting from within the "dead area" then moving down to within the viewable bounds of the screen. Using the Expo feature, you can clearly see the lost desktop items and the "dead area" is making up for the lower vertical resolution of the laptop display. With Compiz disabled, nautilus will display desktop items correctly although there is still a "dead area" in which applications can open into and also into which the mouse pointer can disappear. Expected behaviour: Mouse should stay within bounds of all screens, desktop items should remain within bounds of all screens and apps should also remain within bounds of all screens. I have also tried 10.10, the issue remains ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: gnome (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-25.45-generic 2.6.32.21+drm33.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-25-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Oct 21 12:59:52 2010 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release amd64 (20100429) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: meta-gnome2 ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid ** Description changed: I have a laptop screen with a resolution of 1366x768 and an external monitor connected via VGA, the external monitor has a resolution of 1280x1024.
