I have two ethernet ports at the back of the machine - port1 which is eth0 and port2 which is eth1. By accident this morning I connected the lan cable to the wrong port (port2 instead of port1) to continue this severe ubuntu installation failure and everything works. This is the dumbest mistake I

Just tried 'ifconfig eth1 up' no problems Just tried 'ifconfig eth1 running' and got a Host name lookup failure. If I do 'hostname' I get the correct hostname and if I do a 'hostname -i' I get the correct ip address. -- 10.10 server sun x2100 broadcom5750 - up but not running https:
