Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

to reproduce bug: start vlc on any audio file.

It plays perfectly up to 1:29 then silence, but clock continues
counting. after a few more minutes of silence sound splutters again,
then silent again.

I can start parallel sessions of vlc, and each one will fall silent when
it reaches 1:29. Sometimes starting one while another is silent will
start the silent one spluttering again.

$ apt-cache policy vlc
