8.10 Beta release was most recently announced -

this is still an issue with this
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable
Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you
could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue -
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test
your bug using the LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

yes the new ones are the ones...I have tried booting up into safe mode and I
am pretty sure it worked...

same problem it seems the other kernels work since (at least I believe) it
says
Uncompressing Linux...Booting kernel something like that while the other
ones don't and they display other text having to do with the start up but it
never starts and just has a blinking cursor on bottom...
On Fri,
I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04...it seems like a old kernal is working but none
of the newer ones...

When you say 'stop thinking totally' - what do you mean? What is left on
the screen - a blank screen or one of the splash screens ? Is the cursor
still flashing? Does the caps lock key work? Are any of your disc lights
flashing?

No the caps lock does not work...the cursor is still flashing...it does
not display a splash screen...no none of the other disc lights are
flashing...it almost displays a command line like it does with the other
older kernal...
