Public bug reported:

The image is distorted (picture attached) and is unusable. I have an
Apple MacBook Pro 17" with a ATI X1600 card.

The problem is new with X.org 7.1 and was not present with 7.0.

The problem is not related to my software configuration. I used the
Ubuntu 6.10 install CD (it uses X.org 7.1) and the problem is also
present.

I also have a similar problem with the fbdev driver so the problem may
not be in the VESA driver but in the common X.org code.

I do not have this problem with the proprietary ATI fglrx driver, but I
have some other problems. So maybe the bug is in the VESA and FBDEV
drivers and not in the common X.org code.

I do not have the problem with all the resolutions.
1024x768: no problem
1280x1024: no problem
1400x1050: problem I described

The problem is really annoying since the install CD of Edgy uses this
driver in 1400x1050. So the install CD can't be used.

I also reported this bug as #395919 in Debian
