Thanks for the hint.
This is what I was looking for, but for unknown reasons some files in
/usr/share/doc were missing on the customer machine I was to configure.
Reinstalling the wpasupplicant package brought that file back.
Sorry for that bug report, was my fault.

What do you miss in the documentation found in
/usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant/, escp. in the file
/usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant/README.modes.gz?
