I'm reopening and deduplicating this bug. The default set of launchers
are now well established. However if you look at the attached screenshot
we now have orange launchers for Ubiquity, Nautilus, Firefox,
LibreOffice Impress, the Software Centre and Ubuntu One.
I've got nothing against orange,
Note that Bug #811644 is making this even worse.

The change of the Nautilus icon helps alleviate this.
The easy way to avoid this would be to add a wider variety of launchers
by default - e.g. Software Centre (Yellow), Empathy (Blue), Banshee
(Blue), Shotwell (Turquoise), Evolution (White), etc

Btw, The plan seems to be to turn OFF the backlight for not-running
apps, by default. This should not be an issue when that is
We've had a conversation about the set of apps that should be installed
by default. Icons can be changed separately, the set of apps is based on
what people use most often and what makes the best first impression;
that's hard to change, icons by comparison are easy!

Mark I think you may have have misunderstood my suggestion. I was
talking about adding more launchers by default (only four programs isn't
very many) rather than changing the applications installed on the
system.
Having more launchers by default could help new Ubuntu users discover
some of our
