Public bug reported: There is a problem with the backlight control. The hotkeys splashes the backlight adjust screen and the backlight can be adjusted. The backlight value also gets updated when a xrandr --props is done. However, there is no perceptible change on screen. The backlight works perfectly fine in Windows 7 with which the system is dual-booted.
The os used is Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux 2.6.32-28-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 10 23:42:43 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux). The hardware is a Gateway NV59C70u with i5 quadcore 2.67 GHz 64 bit. Used the /etc/default/grub update of the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor" but nomodeset option makes the screen go blank just before login. Without the nomodeset option, the backlight hotkeys are disabled. Any help is appreciated. ----- xrandr --props output ------ Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm EDID: 00ffffffffffff0006afec2200000000 01130103802213780ac8959e57549226 0f505400000001010101010101010101 010101010101121b5642500026302018 340058c1100000180000000f00000000 00000000000000000020000000fe0041 554f0a202020202020202020000000fe 004231353658573032205632200a00c0 BACKLIGHT: 3 (0x00000003) range: (0,9) Backlight: 3 (0x00000003) range: (0,9) scaling mode: Full supported: None Full Center Full aspect 1366x768 60.0*+ 1360x768 59.8 1024x768 85.0 75.0 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 85.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 85.0 72.8 75.0 59.9 720x400 85.0 640x400 85.1 640x350 85.1 HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: backlight issue -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725707 Title: Backlight not changing on Gateway NV59C70u: Ubuntu 10.04 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
