grub2 (1.99-18ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low
* Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Adjust for default Ubuntu boot options (quiet splash).
- Default to hiding the menu; holding down Shift at boot will
please either update grub package, or change the installer set the
Not_Compressed xattr to /boot as mentioned by @kylegates
the later is more likely to happen to precise at this late date

As an alternative, if you add the z (Not_Compressed) xattr to /boot its
contents won't get compressed and grub will continue to work.
