Public bug reported: This card works perfectly on another install of 6.10 on this machine. I am testing it in a fresh install because I want to run on a fresh install and I guessed (correctly) that this could give trouble with Wifi. I'm sorry but I have no idea how the wifi card got kicked into life in the first place. Someone tried their PCMCIA wireless card in my machine and my built-in one worked after that. Sounds like it just needs a kick in the right place?
I've followed the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/FAQ which I would love help to improve. Running $ less +F /var/log/messages while turning the hardware switch on and off makes no difference. == ifconfig -a == [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# ifconfig -a eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0F:B0:FE:82:F6 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:2 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:2 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:100 (100.0 b) TX bytes:100 (100.0 b) sit0 Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4 NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) == tcpdump -i eth1 == [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# tcpdump -i eth1 tcpdump: ioctl: No such device == netstat -in == [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# netstat -in Kernel Interface table Iface MTU Met RX-OK RX-ERR RX-DRP RX-OVR TX-OK TX-ERR TX-DRP TX-OVR Flg eth0 1500 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 BMU lo 16436 0 2 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 LRU == netstat -rn == [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# netstat -rn Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface = The same of the working install = == $ less +F /var/log/messages == Nov 28 21:20:19 localhost gconfd (duncan-4931): Resolved address "xml:readwrite: /home/duncan/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 0 Nov 28 21:21:42 localhost kernel: [17179718.128000] Kill switch must be turned o ff for wireless networking to work.
