In short, the status bar is the same color as the background, so you
only know where it is when it goes over text in the status line and
changes the color of the text.

I, too, have this problem. If it helps, I am under the safe graphics
mode, but I'm guessing this problem occurs under the normal mode, as
well. This progress bar problem occurs with *every* GTK progress bar,
not just certain programs, so it is obviously a theme-wide problem. I
have included a
