For those who want to use TightVNC on amd64 right now, I've built a binary package, version 1.2.9-21. It was built from a source package from the Debian testing repository (http://packages.debian.org/testing/x11/tightvncserver).
The vncserver binary now runs without any problems on my amd64 platform (2.6.17-11-generic #2 SMP Thu Feb 1 18:03:05 UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux). I built both tightvncserver and xtightvncviewer from the source package; I haven't tested xtightvncviewer, but it should work.
