The workaround has two parts:
1. Copy the .iso to your home directory
2. Change the file extension to .img
The first part is the key. If you now run usb-creator-gtk, it should
automatically see the ".img" file and pre-select it. If you use the
"Other..." option to find the file, it will fail.

This bug is still present :-(. Ubuntu ISOs appear in usb-creator-kde
source window OK (afik). Many others do not (debian-
live-10.9.0-amd64-kde.iso, devuan_beowulf_3.1.1_amd64_desktop-live.iso,
...).
Launching from the command line and selecting a problem ISO from the GUI
gives:
