This should be fixed in 7.10. Reopen if you can reproduce it with 7.10
or newer.

I'm using Edgy and it did the same for me. I cahnge vesa to nv doing a
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg...
I dont remember I had to do that on Dapper or previously on Edgy !?
