In the meantime I found a much better way to avoid the screen
corruptions: Just use…
Option EXAPixmapsoff
…in the 'Device'-section of your xorg.conf. Compared to Option
RenderAccel off the performance is just amazing.

I don't think that bug 789962 is a duplicate of this bug – I think it
makes sense to keep those bug reports apart since different graphics
cards are affected the corruptions look different…

There's a way to avoid the corruptions with this graphics card (at least this
worked for me): Set option RenderAccel off
in section Device in your xorg.conf.

I'm noticing massive swap-usage… – maybe it has something to do with
this bug. I'm working for some hours now, the corruptions took over
parts of the gnome panel and 2,9GB of swap are in use. I was just
