Workarounds suggested are valid temporary options, however this bug is
critical to be resolved if btrfs is to be widely adopted for conversion
of existing root filesystems that have been updated from previous
versions of ubuntu. The conversion itself is quite smooth and painless,

Using a GPT partition table (instead of MSDOS) with a bios_grub
partition of a couple megabytes is a workaround for this.

I simply made the partition start at the 2nd cylinder in fdisk in the
dos table, which gives grub 8MiB of space before the start of the
partition and works too.

I've added a note about this to the release notes:
* If btrfs is used for `/boot`, then the gap between the start of the
disk and the first partition must be more than the traditional 63
sectors. A good modern default is 1 MiB. (Bug:774217)
