Totem has popped up and 'failed to open the file' several times since
then, but no crash.
I've just tried the combination described in my first post (run totem
then download rtf) and all was well.
At the time the crash happened there were several windows open. It's
likely there were several

I did gather a crash report but, as I said in my original post, it's a
17.8MB file! I'm happy to post it if you and launchpad are happy to
receive it :)

Totem Movie Player 2.16.2
Movie Player using GStreamer 0.10.10 and GNOME
