@Harry - I am using an external (usb) mouse!
However, I just checked on my laptop's own keyboard and it seems to work
there! (which isn't much use to me because I always use external mouse
and keyboard - my laptop essentially actually being my desktop).

I am using a Dell Latitude D630, and middle click seems to be disabled
on the laptop (as described above, using both left and right buttons to
simulate a middle click). However, if I plug in a usb mouse, middle-
click works fine.
