This really looks like bug #886606 as Colin says, the fix for it is part
of Unity-2d 5.10/Ubuntu 12.04. Can any of you guys having this
particular problem check under that versions and see if the problem is
still there?

The same issue is on 11.10. I have copied settings from 11.04 installation had
before and it looks like there are no global menu for Empathy Contact List
window. I am not sure if it is previous settings are not handled or a bug.
Another interesting issue with Empathy: it stopped logging
I get the same issue with 3D unity in 11.10, upgraded from 11.04 the
other day. It always starts open and maximised after logging in, the
menu appears ok then. I always close it and virtually never use it, but
if I do decide to open it from the panel I don't get a menu but it does
say Empathy IM
Hi, I can reproduce a similar issue with synaptic, all the time. Please
let me know if someone else can reproduce this as well:
- Open a terminal
- run /usr/sbin/synaptic
- a dialog will appear to warn you about missing root privileges, click on
Close
- observe the window title: application name

Hello gentlemen, after the latest round of updates of unity-2d - the
issue with minimizing and restoring has been fixed but when I first
start Empathy - there is no appname and no menubar. I can click on the
desktop and back on the window and it appears. The unity-2d build I
currently have is
