Public bug reported:

After upgrading from the 386 to the generic kernels (which all seem to libata) 
the root device is not correctly added to the boot loader (grub in my case). 
The root line that is added is "root=/dev/hdc1", but this should now be 
"root=/dev/sdc1".
If I manually change the line, the system boots correctly.

This has been an issue in all the kernel < 2.6.17-10 (Probably the point
at which libata got implemented)
