In my case, the hang occurs only if monitor power saving is turned on.
If I turn it off, then the GL screensaver doesn't hang,

I can confirm that this happens on HP Compaq nw8440 as well. I have to
use the fglrx driver for the ATI graphics adapter on Kubuntu Feisty.
The only workaround is to turn the computer off and back on.
