I have a HP pavilion dv6308nr with Feisty Fawn. I updated the kernel
from 2.6.20-16 to 2.6.22-13 and the brightness keys stopped working. So,
updating again brings the problem again.

I confirm the same problem on a dv2081 (Core Duo, Nvidia 7200) Edgy.
The built-in controls used to work fine earlier on Edgy, but one of the
updates seems to have broken it. Also, I've noticed that the controls
work fine if I use them before X starts (i.e. after the boot progress
bar disappears
Similar behavior occurs when switching screens between LCD and VGA out.
