It is obviously a localization problem, I experience the same issue having
this environment configuration:
cristian@cristian-F5N:~$ echo $LANG
it_IT.utf8
cristian@cristian-F5N:~$ echo $LANGUAGE
it_IT:it_CH:it:en
cristian@cristian-F5N:~$ echo $LC_MESSAGES
it_IT.UTF-8

Using the fallback 'C' locale.
