Public bug reported:

Sometimes (difficult to estimate, possibly once in 40 (or less) hours of
usage, the GUI freezes.

The mouse keeps going, the rest is unusable. If there is something in the 
background, it keeps running.
In order to workaround the problem, I can switch to another terminal and kill 
the gui from there, and restart it.

This comparatively almost never happened with the previous Ubuntu
releases I've used.
