Same problem, Compaq Evo N610c with Hardy.
Popup with uninformative message, failure sound, gnome-power-manager hibernate
failed in log.

Same problem here, with an EeePC 700 with Hardy (gnome-power-manager
2.22.1-1ubuntu4 and linux-image-generic 2.6.24.21.23). Suspend to disk
seems to work fine, except that after resuming it displays the warning
about hibernate failed. Also, g-p-m is probably to blame for the
beeping noise I get
I am also having this problem on a Dell Inspiron 1525n with Hardy 8.04.1
LTS.
My laptop hibernates just fine (using uswsusp), and resumes perfectly,
although gnome-power-manager throws this error at me in user.log:
Oct 5 16:43:55 Atreides gnome-power-manager: (greyor) hibernate failed
I hope
My problem is with the lack of informative message: sometimes it even
happens that the laptop correctly hibernates, but at resume the message
appears. A pointer to a precise error should be provided.

gnome-power-manager says that HAL was unable to hibernate right after

I reported two different bugs: one is that the popup appears wrongly,
after a correct hibernation cycle, the other one is that the popup is
uninformative. I forgot about that. It's better to mark one a dupe of
the other, because the solution is the same in both cases (I think):
provide more
I can confirm this on several HP Pavilions running 8.04.1 and 8.10 alpha
5+.

gnome-power-manager says that HAL was unable
Is this issue still affecting you by the way? If so, is your problem
with the lack of informative message from gnome-power-manager, or is
your problem with the inability yo hibernate (if you haven't reported a
separate bug report about that)?
** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu)
This does happen on many machines I've seen. I confirm this for that
reason, it's not just a bug for me, I know other people reporting the
issue but nobody is following it here. If it stays in incomplete status
for other 8 months (it has been till now) developers will never look at
it. Feel free

Still there in gutsy, it's rare but it's still there. Many people I know
experience this, it's just silly.

Please can someone reply here? I just want to report the problem better,
the problem is still there in feisty. We have to solve all these minor
annoyances to make ubuntu usable. What is the way to know why HAL
failed to hibernate (which is not true since the laptop was correctly
hibernated)?
--
Forgot to mention that I am using feisty to test it, and that this
problem was not there in edgy with my current laptop, but I had this
problem on dapper with another computer.
