It fixed itself with other updates from people who have a better idea of
what they're doing; or so I assume.

I'm not a desktop developer and have no idea where this bug truly lies,
but it's definitely not a problem with the boot loader. I'm sending it
over to unity as a better guess.

Something like this also happened to me the last time a kernel update
was pushed, but I gave it a fresh install and it worked.
