This bug report is now almost 10 years old, and as far I know this issue
was sorted out several years ago. It works for me now at least.
If this can still be reproduced, please reopen with an updated step-by-
step on how to reproduce.

I get the exact same error running fully-updated Oneiric. I also get a
similar error when running ffmpeg:
aroman@crackedpipes:~$ ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s
1024x768 -i :0.0 -acodec pcm_s16le -vcodec libx264 -vpre lossless_ultrafast
