I can confirm this problem with an onboard and an usb sound card. After every new login, only the onboard card is controlled by "gnome-control- center sound". I have to manually switch the cards. $ cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel

This should probably be better explained: I have to sound cards: an intel internal one and an Advanced Logic (AL) one attached to the PCI bus. Normally, the internal one is recognized first and then the AL one one, but I use the following lines in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf (a file I created) to
