I defidentally still have this issue with OOo 2.2, fglrx 8.35.5... I
think it might also be scim related, but not sure... KOffice still runs
but I need something to read MS documents!

I am unable to reproduce this bug using the fglrx drivers. Is this still
an issue for you with OOo 2.2?

I'm having this exact same problem on dapper. I downloaded the latest
fglrx driver from the ati website a couple of days ago (the fglrx driver
installed by default had an unrelated bug of freezing up at shutdown),
and installed it manually.
Now Open Office won't run after calling up the splash
