Thanks for responding Alex. I should have looked to see if this package
has been included in latest releases. I apologize for any extra work
you had to do. It seems from some research that Debian has stopped
supporting EVMS. Since packages.ubuntu.com is down right now I can't
see exactly where

I can see this bug as well, using an SCSI device, trying to make a JFS
filesystem and selecting the bad blocks scan, or the case-insenstitive
option will crash the evmsgui. It receives a SIGABRT
