I got this just yesterday when I ran a gnome-session remotely over
SSH... there were multiple complaints about keyboard layout and
something asking me if I want to use X or GNOME settings, and this
seemed to be related to a breaking keyboard layout applet (and, I think,

- run /usr/lib/gnome-applets/gnome-keyboard-applet from a command line (it'll
apparently hang, it waits for an applet to be added to the panel)
