failing that at least Feisty Beta) and report whether this fixes your

i built a 2.6.20 VANILLA kernel from kernel.org
using the instructions here http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_ubuntu
and the behavior in the vanilla kernel is just as in ubuntu's patched version.
can anyone help me pushing this to the kernel developers ?

just found out that it works fine with the reelased edgy live cd - dmesg is as
in knoppix and i can mount and use the drive.
it must be a problem with the new kernel then
