The debug logs look like you the restart works fine now. There is no
problem on an edgy desktop CD neither nor on my feisty desktop. Maybe
there was something else that triggered the bug? If you run
/etc/init.d/dbus restart now do you get that error code?

The problem fixed itself after I reinstalled the OS =) It was a new laptop
anyway so reinstallation was quick.

system-tools-backend script since you wrote previously that restarting
that one only doesn't lead to an error
