Public bug reported:

Prompted by Adept Package Updater I upgraded a number of packages. Did
not pay too much attention to package information details. However, I
noticed two references to kernel (headers?) 2.6.17-11.

Upgrade/update completed successfully. On the next re-boot
KNetworkmanager could not find a wireless device. Neither could
Wlanassistant.

lspci reports the card correctly as Communications controller, Atheros
Communications, Inc. Files related to wireless network connection are
still there. Resolve.conf and 'interfaces' display correct values.

ifconfig and iwconfig report 'no such device' or no device found.
dhclient also does not come up with the wireless device.

The Atheros card is working fine with 6.06, W2K and Kubuntu kernel
2.6.17-10.

This old version fortunately was preserved on the computer and is now
shown as a separate installation.

I do not know whether this is a bug or just a freak occurrance on my
computer. I do know however that it is clearly linked to the most recent
update/upgrade suggested by Adept Manager.

System Settings detects only 'eth0', which is not used.
