You just need to take screenshots like in the old documentation, but with the
new icons.
You must save them as png images.
You must then run them through the pngcrush program.

I looked at Section 2 of the synaptic help to see the screenshots are out of
date. I am interested in updating the help. Could you point me where and how to
start?
I use Gutsy, synaptic 0.6ubuntu5.

To be honest I think that the screenshots are the smallest problem of
the documentation :) I haven't found the time to update the
documentation for years.
You could make the screenshots, pngcrush them and attach them to this
bug report.
