Um, kinda strange: Nautilus, Evolution, gedit, … still don’t work, while
Firefox does. So I thought it’s a problem with GTK apps, while Firefox
uses a different mechanism. Now I just installed Revelation, and there
the menu activation works.
I now saw that Revelation still uses GTK2, so maybe it’s

I am using an HP 625 running 11.10 with a German locale and keyboard
layout.

I couldn't reproduce this, it works exactly as expected on Nautilis for
me. What type of computer/keyboard are you using? I'm using a laptop,
and can't reproduce it on 11.10
