I have tested the new qt4-x11 now and it actually solves the problem.
The hp-systray icon is now always there right after logging in. Thank
you very much.

Yes, this works for me now, even with the unpatched HPLIP (I re-
installed hplip-data). So point (3) of my initial report is fixed. Now
only the no-icon-on-login problem (1), (2) is remaining.
