Just to confirm this issue still exists.
As @cmsj mentions, can confirm that the new terminal is given focus if
the mouse happens to be hovering over where the new terminal is created.
I'd expect the current behaviour to be the correct behaviour. Consider
the following:
1. split window
2. new

The focus will depend on where the mouse is - if it's over the area that
will be the new terminal, focus will go to that terminal, so in the
strictest sense the focus is following the mouse. Having said that, I
can see the argument for focussing the new terminal.
