Problem ResolvedConfirmed that
the problem remains for me. I think the issue is SONY VIAO laptop internal
WebCAM. Anyone can suggest a driver?
The model of the laptop is SONY VIAO VGN-FJ290P, it's a Pentium M 1.81 GHz,
1.5G RAM, Intel 915GM chipset and integrated video.

Problem
Dave H, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
Re-tested with Ubuntu 12.10 final release. The hang is fixed and even
the webcam worked. Installation finished successfully.
Also, all buttons were on screen (1024x600) and usable during
installation.

Ubuntu installer hangs on Choose a picture screen. Never recovers.
The Ubuntu daily image from 3 September 2012 (amd64 standard desktop)
installer hangs on the Choose a picture screen.
I can take a photo with the webcam and it allows me to choose that photo
alongside other avatars/images. However, whatever image chosen I cannot
get the install process to move
Just reinstalled (in order to encrypt the root partition where there did
not seem to be an option if you want a customised partition).
The install process went smoothly with no hanging at the choose
picture stage (I chose one of the existing pictures/avatars).

A new kernel rebased to upstream v3.5-rc7 will be uploaded soon. Once
available, it would be great if you could test the daily build again.
I'll post a comment when the new kernel is available.

Would it be possible for you to boot off a Live CD and run the following

That will give us additional hardware details.

The original bug report suggested this might be because the screen on a
netbook is too low resolution. However I can see the Continue button on
mine (1024x600) and still can't click it because the mouse and keyboard
are frozen.
** Summary changed:
- Netbook Install Fail - Choose a picture screen

Installation not
A workaround that got me past this problem:
0. Boot into a live session
1. Open a terminal
2. sudo -s
3. lsmod and look for the camera driver (mine was uvcvideo)
4. rmmod uvcvideo
5. Add a blacklist file for uvcvideo to /etc/modprobe.d/
6. Start the installation
