Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10
(Xubuntu)

Installing Xubuntu (and I guess also Ubuntu) from the official release
CD offers the option to encrypt the /home directory. After doing so the
suspend to disk does not work. The reason is: The swap-partition is also
encrypted, so after a reboot the memory image cannot be read from this
partion.

An complicated work around is suggested by
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/ruhezustand-mit-lenovo-thinkpad-t410/
and
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/probleme-mit-ruhezustand-suspend-to-disk/
(in German!)

This works. But it should not be the standard procedure I guess.
I suggest not to encrypt the swap partion by default is the solution.
