Please try the following: apt-add-repository ppa:libv4l/stable apt-get update apt-get upgrade If you type dpkg -l libv4l-0 you should see a 0.8.6~something version printed. If you run cheese, your webcam image should be in the right orientation now. Now install the 32bit version of libv4l:
