I should mention it's Kubuntu Edgy.
/var partition is 60% used.
/var has the following permissions: drwxr-xr-x however, he cannot sudo touch
/var/test, /var is mounted read-only.
/var/run and /var/lock both exist, but there is nothing in /var/lock.
X fails with xauth: creating new authority
dmesg shows nothing strange.
I will try to check /var/log/messages, as it sounds vaguely like this problem:
